Okay, so technically this is my second post. You will see back in September of 2020 I created this blog, wrote one post, and then fast forward 2.5 years here we are again. I thought about deleting my singular 2020 post for a cleaner and more presentable start to this blog but honestly that's not what this is supposed to be about. This little part of the internet is more of a come as you are, let's share our life experiences, leave it all on the table, help each other along the way, be real together type of thing and I cannot think of anything more real than writing your first blog post all to come back to it a few years later to start it up again. So here we are today May 1, 2023 ready to relaunch this little idea of mine. Thankfully, things change with time. I am now a more tenured cancer survivor, I have another little girl, I have completed a full renovation of our current home with my husband and we have just started a new business venture together. With all these wonderful blessings of the past 2.5 years, I now have a few more things I'd like to talk about here than I had anticipated back in the fall of 2020.
So what is Healthy, Otherwise? Unsurprising to anyone, I have been to many doctors over the last few years, cancer related, yes, and also mid-thirties related. We tried to be very diligent during my treatment and got a second or third opinion from almost every type of specialist I needed. This practice has carried into my non-cancer doctor-patient relationships as well. So for every specialty of doctor, I've probably seen three of them. Call me crazy, but multiple opinions have been a great way for me to learn and to advocate for myself. More on self advocacy later! Of course you all know that with every new doctor comes the paperwork and personal health history and whenever I get around to talking about my cancer history almost every doctor follows with, "oh yeah, but you're healthy, otherwise, right?." It happened so often my husband and I started joking that this was going to be the title of my book one day. Instead, it's going to be the title of my blog where I share my wife/mom/homemaker/entrepreneur/cancer survivor life with you all.
Now let's try this again! My name is Trina. My husband and I have been married for over 7 years and we have two beautiful girls. I am a 3 year (!) Triple Negative Breast Cancer survivor (dx 9/16/2019). I have been cancer free since 3/31/2020 - Praise be! Throughout my treatment, I found writing was the best way for me to process all of these crazy events and whenever I found someone else's writing, it helped me feel less lonely. So that is my only goal: to help myself process life's events and to help others feel less lonely. While I surely do not plan to only talk about my cancer treatment and experience, it is something that has changed me - in a good way - forever. I am so glad you have found this page and were interested enough to make it to the end of this post! Thank you for following along with me through my life as I now know it to be - healthy, otherwise.
